100 ways came about from an urge to capture and isolate the notion of urban survival. I suppose at this stage I'm still trying to define what that survival could mean in this context. And then the layer on top of that zooms in on the experience of a woman. I think the measures of success are changing, the idea of excelling is constantly shifting due to social, economical and political forces of a generation I am not a part of. It's been handed to me, these are the problems, deal with it, develop in it. And perhaps this is an observation made by the youth of every generation - I don't know.
I think a lot of us experience smallness and isolation in a claustrophobic environment filled with other humans fighting for air. And we've all come up with various strategies to deal with it on our own - to distract ourselves, to take synthetic actions that might move us to a different, more enjoyable state of lightness and height. Can you identify a person who's lonely? Sometimes I think I can, not on purpose, not because I'm looking, well, sometimes because I'm looking.
Who will we grow into? Have we grown into what we've always wanted to be?
What are the dangers of the urban environment? Have we been more primed to know what the dangers are? The quiet dark nights - you don't know if you preferred being completely alone without a sound or having some people hanging about.
